Under the Big Top

This show was not for the weak of heart; trapeze artist flew blindfolded and performers rode on motorcycles on a high wire. From the choreographed dances to the trampoline act, the performers put on a class act.

Robert Campa runs the Mexican National Circus. After travelling through South America, Europe and the United States, he brought the act to Canada for the first time. It's the new style of circus, no animals, just people doing daring stunts. Campa insists on giving a classy show, flower baskets hang by the lamps, the workers wear uniforms and suits.

The 36 performers gave the audience a lot of variety in the hour and a half show. Apart from the ever-popular trapeze act, they did some stunts with one of Campa's inventions.

The dancers used the Monarch butterfly as a theme to tie Canada and Mexico together.

"We love Canada," said Campa who did most of the announcing behind the scenes.

His son, Mundo, stole the show with his antics as the clown. Mixing traditional with the unorthodox, Mundo pulled up people from the audience to take part in skits.

Although the crowds were scarce, the few who did go enjoyed a class act performance.
